VW at its Best!

The new Edition 2025 is a different kind of book – it is THE book for the automotive enthusiast who wants to learn more about the stories of long forgotten automobiles, brands and other developments. Whether rare, fast, or crazy—many interesting stories with historical background, accompanied by numerous historical photos and images of AutoCult models from 2025, make this book a must-have for anyone interested in automotive history. As every year, AUTOCULT includes the book in “digital” form on a USB stick.

In retrospect, both the VW Beetle and the T1 proved to be the models that enjoyed great popularity in the customizing scene. Every possible conversion has been created, but from the multitude of altered originals seen again and again, every now and then some fall out of line that make you smile – like the “double T1”!

The designation is by no means official, but it characterizes the converted T1 flatbed transporter exactly, but at first glance it causes a lot of confusion in the head, because the question is: Where is the front and ware is the back?

However, if you take a closer look, you will quickly discover the sophistication behind the concept. It is explained in simple terms, a standard T1 flatbed transporter, whose sheet metal part of the loading area in the rear area was shortened in length by exactly enough that it could be replaced with a second driver’s cab of another T1 flatbed model. Since the substructure is still technically the same as of a standard model, the boxer engine contributes to work in its proven place in the rear, but only covered by the sheet metal of a driver’s cab.

Nothing is known about its creator, owner or collector, only it is proven that the VW was at home in South Africa and probably used as daily, as the wear and tear shows. There is a lot of speculation here, but one thing is certain – this special T1 model is simply a very cool “VW at its Best”.
