The Porsche 754, which was created in 1961, was developed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the son of the founder, on the basis of the Porsche 356. Although it was based on the 356, the shape of the prototype differed significantly from the donor vehicle. The design was continuously developed over the years until its presentation at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, but essentially remained true to its concept.
The front section was particularly striking, with a chrome element that made the car appear wider. The round headlights were a legacy of the 356. The biggest difference was at the side: the 754 had a 100 millimetre longer wheelbase, which created more space in the interior. At the rear was a flat “tail” with horizontal tail lights and two central tailpipes, which gave the vehicle a sporty and modern look.
The interior was larger than in the 356 and even offered four real seats to make it more suitable for everyday use. Under the hood was a 2.2-liter 6-cylinder engine with around 130 hp, which was specially developed to replace the 4-cylinder engine of the 356 Carrera 2, which the engineers felt was too loud.
