Fiat removed the 124 Spider, which had been produced by Pininfarina since 1966, from its regular sales program in the fall of 1982. However, Pininfarina continued to see profitable sales opportunities for this classic car in the future and took over production of the model on its own responsibility until the summer of 1985, introducing the name Pininfarina Spidereuropa. The vehicle was equipped with a 2.0-liter fuel-injected engine that delivered 105 hp (77 kW). The fuel injection system used was the Bosch L-Jetronic, which was a reliable, electronically controlled carburetor replacement solution that provided the engine with a consistent fuel supply and better mid- to high-speed performance. The vehicle thus stood out thanks to its combination of modern technology and characteristic convertible feel.
