The 1955 Alfa Romeo 1900C SS Ghia-Aigle Cabriolet is an extremely rare collector's item that combines Alfa Romeo's Italian engineering expertise with Ghia-Aigle's exclusive Swiss coachbuilding. The car is based on the high-performance "Super Sprint" (SS) chassis of the 1900 series.
Design & Body: Designed by the legendary Giovanni Michelotti for the Swiss firm Ghia-Aigle, it features elegant, flowing lines typical of luxury convertibles of the 1950s.
Engine: Equipped with a 1,884 cc (later 1,975 cc) inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts (DOHC), producing approximately 115 hp.
Exclusivity: Because Alfa Romeo switched to a unibody construction with the 1900, it was difficult for external coachbuilders to create their own bodywork. Ghia-Aigle was one of the few manufacturers to produce special limited series or one-off models on the shortened "C" (Corto) chassis.
Chassis: The car utilizes modern independent front suspension and a live rear axle, offering superb handling for its time.
Interestingly, one of these rare examples (chassis #01959) was presented at prestigious events such as the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and is considered one of the most elegant examples of the collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Ghia-Aigle.
