Aero’s Type 30 went on sale in 1934, was manufactured right up until
the war year of 1943, and was re-launched in 1945. In total,
production amounted to exactly 7,425 units, making it the most successful
car in Aero’s history.
The car was available ex-works in versions including roadster, saloon
and van; in addition, 29 chassis were also delivered directly to the
bodywork specialist ‘Sodomka’. At the company’s site in Vysoké Mýto,
bespoke, highly elegant bodywork was created for these, commissioned
by individuals with very deep pockets.
One of these bespoke bodies was built from 1939 onwards and, from today’s
perspective, appears particularly successful – an elegant two-tone paint finish
stretches across very generously proportioned, sweeping mudguards; the coupé
roof flows gracefully into the boot; and whitewall tyres enhance the refined flair
of this elongated car. Also noteworthy is the integration of the headlamps into
the wings – a styling feature that was still by no means commonplace at the end
of the 1930s.
The identity of the person who commissioned the vehicle has been lost to history
just as much as the car itself, which could reach speeds of just under 110 km/h.
