The 1964 Cadillac Coupé de Ville is a large and luxurious American two-door coupe from the classic era of Cadillac. Measuring around 5.68 metres in length and over 2 metres in width, it was considerably larger than most European cars of its time. Its pillarless hardtop design meant there was no fixed B-pillar between the front and rear side windows, giving the car an especially open appearance when the windows were lowered.

The car is powered by a 7.0-litre V8 engine with 429 cubic inches of displacement. It produces around 340 SAE horsepower and approximately 650 Nm of torque, giving the heavy Cadillac strong acceleration despite its size. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The Coupé de Ville was not designed as a sports car; instead, its main purpose was to provide effortless power and a smooth, comfortable driving experience.

Inside, the Cadillac offered a very high level of luxury for 1964. Depending on the equipment, it could feature power windows, electrically adjustable seats, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. The dashboard is wide and heavily decorated with chrome and trim, reflecting the luxurious American design of the period. The car could also be equipped with Cadillac's advanced automatic climate-control system, which allowed the driver to select a desired temperature.

The 1964 model is particularly significant because it was the final year of this Cadillac generation and retained the characteristic rear fins of the early 1960s. At the same time, the design was already becoming cleaner and more restrained compared with the extravagant Cadillacs of the late 1950s. This combination of large dimensions, powerful V8 performance, extensive luxury equipment and distinctive styling makes the 1964 Coupé de Ville a notable example of American automotive design from the 1960s.
